Actually, IBM has always had the image of a 'big iron' hardware company. They really tried to change it to a 'services/internet ebusiness provider, and even renamed their mainframes to 'servers'. MVS, which is the mainframe OS, was renamed to OS/390... The PC business was never close to being king at IBM, and is not even in the same ballpark with mainframe hardware/software when it comes to profits. The key at IBM was replacing flat mainframe revenue growth with services and ebusiness. That along with astute financial engineering has made the difference and Wall Street has bought it lock stock and barrel <ggg>.

Best regards,
John
