Paul, an excellent analysis. I think the keys are the efficiency of Dell's asset management as measured by ROIC, and Dell's superb cash management as measured by CCC. These are the the ace and king of trumps in this business, and whenever a company tries to go head to head with Dell they must recon with the fact that those trumps allow Dell to maintain healthy profits and huge cash flows in the face of declining prices.

I suspect that these realities have not been lost on Dell's competitors, and leads me to believe that we will gradually see the abdication of the small to medium business market for desktops and low-end servers ceded to Dell. I think that we will see a battle for higher end servers and notebooks. I believe that the lack of an in house service arm will constrain Dell at the high end, but that is a market it may simply decide to avoid, much as GTW has decided to avoid the business market.

TTFN,
