Frank, I like your conclusions, t2k, but I have little confidence in the rationality of the legal system down here. When money and justice are involved, the green back generally gets the nod. Perhaps Mr. Softee should take a billion or two out of the piggy bank and grease some of the states' palms.

The one thing working for MSFT is that unlike the tobacco companies, MSFT is still well liked by the public (maybe not by the computer geeks like Toy and Rusty) and the corporate world. This is why this case is different.

I think Bill Gates should grease the some of the states' palms with a hand shake and maybe a photograph with these people. You gotta remember that these are civil servants we are talking about not some big business tycoons. This will be the closest they get to some very high profile people like Bill Gates. Bill should let them get something out of it, otherwise they don't have much excitement.
I think after the initial negotiation stage, Bill Gates should join the negotiations--the state AGs will love to meet a world classcelebrity. Someone like Steve Balmer will not have the same affect as he is not a celebrity.
You are right, MSFT should spend lot of cash also greasing up the bank accounts of these states too.
I am very optimistic about the whole thing--whether we get a settlment or a verdict.
