Edamo: Re-Dell VAR's
My understanding is that Dell has Vars especially in South America and Japan. It may be more appropriate to say that VARS use Dell's .
For example. my niece has a body shop in Chino , Ca, and uses three computers with unique software.
When she wants the programs changed she calls in the people who sold her the systems to 'fix' the software or to replace the computers.
In this case the seller could say "I recommend Dells, they are the best and I can get them for you wholesale(or a bargain)". So he buys the Dells and does his job, which is to install the proper software
and maintains them for her. He may buy the Dells direct or for less cost via the following:
Its my guess that there is a whole 'system' at work behind the scenes in the small business field. That
is,Dell does give discounts on quantity buys so a VAR could buy 1000 units, resell those by the
100 units to the others that configure them and install them to meet the needs of businesses that only need
a few and do not have time or inclination to mess with the inards or install them in the shop.
Shirley has Business Degree from USC, about 62 wrecked cars sitting at the shop to be fixed .No time
or inclination to mess with computers but they are very important to the business. Having the computers
inoperative for more than one day would be a
big pain, and also very costly, since they are used to price and order the parts needed to bid on jobs on
many different brands of cars.
In these cases the relation between Dell's name and the word 'quality' is especially important
and the addition of IBM to the growing connections list is significant.
Just FWIW
Regards.
