This conversation has gotten some meat on it finally. T'guy, I like the way you've gotten to the core of it. What's efficiently distributed on-line is information....not tractors, books, clothes, hard goods, etc. If a hard goods seller could charge for giving out on-line information, that web site could become a profit center, but there's a zero chance of that happening. (Would we pay for searching Amazon?) We do pay for using SI, and gladly. Advertisers will pay for access to us. That's why, to me, AOL makes sense, Amazon does not.
Perhaps this is simplistic. Further comments anyone?
