Brian, re: the Dairy Queen purchase: I'm pretty sure that it had mostly to do with management. One of Buffett's main criteria for purchase is whether or not the owner is someone he'd allow his daughter to marry--it he's not "in love" with the people who run/own it, he won't touch it, no matter how good its business prospects. Conversely, and perhaps to his discredit, I have heard that quality of managerial character is often *the* overriding factor in his investment decisions. I imagine that he's bonkers over DQ's management, loves their "dusty" Sundaes in that corny way that only he can, loves to blow away mainstream media by holding meetings in the Omaha DQ, etc. Kind of a manifestation of his philosophy--not a supergreat, set-the-world-on-fire biz, but a steady, honest one that makes its $ the old fashioned way.
