Maurice!
" That is a complete victory for IS-95. Did you notice the royalty rate? That is a rhetorical question so you don't need to feel bad about not answering. There had been discussion of 1,2,3 or4% as the royalty rate. It is 6% or so, same as IS-95. That is a comprehensive victory."

What are you talking about? Do you think the other companies will pay 6% to QCOM for their 3G systems? Dream on.
In one of the articles published here a person from ITU said that the money paid for the IPR:s would follow the normal principles.
Anyhow 6% which is unrealistic is a long way from the 15-20 % you predicted that Ericsson would pay for a CDMA license.
Did you notice that they mentioned in the pressrelease that QCOM would be able to use the Ericcsons disputed IPR:s in their ASIC design.I thought that the Ericsson:s IPR:s was useless.Gregg told us that his patentlawyers has looked in to the disputed IPR:s and have come up with that they were of no value.Irwin Jacobs promised never to license out their IPR:s to WCDMA.Now is the last hurdle gone.NTT-DocomoJapan Telecom and Europe will use WCDMA and will be followed by the rest of the GSM world. The IS-95 operators will upgrade to CDMA 2000,TDMA operators to EDGE .Hopefully the diffeent modes are set so it will be cheap to make multimode mobiles. You can forget about your IS-95 overlay on GSM it will never happen.First of all you need mobiles. If they would start the design now it would probably take 2 years before a mobile was ready. In that timeframe the 3g system will start to appear.Who needs it by the way? Why should anyone want to make such a mobile? The big manufacturers are busy making GPRS,EDGE,WCDMA,CDMA2000,WAP mobiles they don't need another standard.
