Here is my uneducated opinion.
As I see it, after the USSR started falling apart, all of its satteleite countries started following the same path. So did Yugoslavia. First Bosnia, Croatia, now Kosovo. For some reason, someone in Kosovo has decided that they will do better as an independent state. They heated up the crowd. Of course there where individuals of Albanian origin, who decided to support their point of view with weapons. Yugoslavia is falling apart and Miloshevich is trying to keep it toghether (what would other leader do in his place). Some people in the country think otherwise. Without better judgement, both sides decided to use weapons to resolve this conflict. This is called a CIVIL WAR. Of course this is wrong and inhumane. Of course it has to be stopped. But by political and economical means ONLY.
By starting this bombings NATO has crossed the line from being a peice maker to agression. Serbs will be fighting for their homeland, for their freedom and independence. And americans should understand this better than anyone else. Nothing can supress will for freedom.
Serbs where fighting all kinds of aggressors for the last millenium. They never gave up. Why should it be differnet this time?
Bombimgs are just making it worse. No matter what targets are being bombed, civilians are beeing killed. There is no way to justify their death. Killing serb civilians to prevent killing of albanian civilians? Who of them are better or worse? There is no such thing.
I understand, that NATO had a reputation to protect, after making so many threats. It has made its point. These bombings have to be stopped NOW.
Sending ground troops will become the next Vietnam.
God bless soldiers. It their job to follow orders.
