I agree about the structure, and I also agree about the subliminal way ideas work. I have had more than one boss in the past that used my ideas as their own. I would give them an idea. They would reject it out of hand, and a few weeks or months later they would present the idea as their own. I never resented it. I used the phenomena to get things done. I see a little of how memory works. We think we remember everything but we remember practically nothing. So I actually believe those bosses believed the ideas were their own. Ideas work in mysterious ways. In 1972 I came into a company with a reputation as a hatchet man. Half the staff left the day I came on. It was a book production job. I took the half the staff that was left, and I divided up the books that needed to be produced between them and told them that their time was their own but that they had to produce the books on time. (At the time I could not let them go home, but I did not hassle them because they were reading books or talking etc.) Twice the number of books got done than was usual for that company. My reward? I got fired. I have a good story. I was forced to work for myself. And now, today, I see a guy out there getting fame and fortune for promoting this way of management. It's all a hoot. And oh yes, I forgot to mention the best reward of all: for giving my employees freedom, I got to wander around thatNew York City that I love in the day time as well as night.
