AT&T says too busy to
merge AtHome and
RoadRunner

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - AT&T Corp. is too
busy after just closing its acquisition of cable giant
Tele-Communications Inc. to contemplate merging
its At Home Corp. Internet service with Time
Warner Inc.'s rival RoadRunner service, a top
AT&T official said on Friday.

''There's so much to do now that it would be a distraction to even address it,
and the parties literally are not,'' Leo Hindery, president of AT&T's
broadband and Internet services division, told reporters after a speech at the
Washington Metropolitan Cable Club.

At Home and RoadRunner both offer Internet service over cable wires at
speeds 25 or more times faster than connections over ordinary telephone
wires.

AT&T, through its acquisition of TCI, holds a controlling stake in At Home.
Other major partners are Comcast Corp. , Cox Communications Inc. and
Cablevision Systems Corp.

RoadRunner is a joint venture of MediaOne Group Inc. and Time
Warner, with stakes also held by Microsoft Corp., Compaq Computers Corp.
and closely held publishing company Advance/Newhouse.

The planned merger of Comcast Corp., with its stake in At Home, and
MediaOne, with its stake in RoadRunner, had led to speculation that the two
cable Internet service providers would merge.
