How do you go about figuring out the percentage of institutional ownership on a stock? I remember in an earlier post you said it was small in a stock like ATHM.

In general it does seem that people, individuals tend to make choices about where to put their money based on where the last great place to put it was. Uncle Harry made a lot of money in Dell, let's put ours there. But they also have only so much tolerance for risk and if an instrument with a return that is safer (like T bills or CDs) is anywhere close to the return in stocks, they'll go there. I think that there are a lot of people in stocks who would rather be in something else. My husband, for one, is extremely concerned with "return of" his money. I have to take my portfolio to cash on a regular basis to convince him that it is real money.
