Pleased to see this discussion of TI and Qualcomm's CDMA. Long time follower of both companies and have been curious re use of TI's DSP expertise in CDMAOne (current CDMA) and possible use in next generation (3G). As I understand, and am no technological wiz, not only does Qualcomm have a lock on the basic CDMA patents for now and the future, but makes mucho dinero from selling ASICs. Those ASICs are designed to the Q's spec's and sold by the Q while IBM and Intel are the Q's "foundries". Most interesting relationship. The Q's ASICs are key components in both CDMA phone handsets and base stations. Almost exclusively provided by the Q for both - altho Nokia and Motorola make ASICs for their own handsets. To my knowledge, TI univolved in CDMA in any way. TI does provide chips for the older analog, GSM and TDMA technologies - primarily for Ericsson. Zero for CDMA. My understanding may well be wrong. But since CDMA is the future for wireless - both voice and data, hope a seat at the table can be taken by TI. Clarification, comments welcome. Chaz
