Unisys Extends Microsoft Enterprise Partnership with New Office 2000 Solution

BLUE BELL, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 29, 1999--As the initial step in a significant expansion of its partnership with Microsoft, Unisys Corporation today introduced an end-to-end services solution for the rapid deployment and successful integration of Microsoft Office 2000.

Leveraging Unisys expertise in the design and delivery of distributed computing infrastructure and operations support, the new Unisys Office 2000 Solution incorporates the resources and services required to facilitate the deployment of Office 2000 in enterprise-class environments. As a result, enterprises are able to more rapidly realize the advantages of the software suite's enhanced functionality.

The Unisys Office 2000 Solution is based on a structured, phased consulting methodology designed to streamline integration of Microsoft technologies into heterogeneous environments and accelerate the realization of enterprise-wide business benefits.

This consulting methodology consists of iterative processes that employ standard templates and tools, well-defined milestones and proactive project management. The solution is delivered through the Unisys Microsoft Solutions Practice (MSP), which focuses on consultative support services and solutions for Microsoft technology in enterprise networks.

Unisys MSP consultants guide the customer through a structured assessment and architectural design phase, and then provide a customized deployment plan optimized to achieve business objectives.

Deployment of new IT infrastructure and Office 2000 software is delivered by Microsoft-certified Unisys engineers, and Unisys project managers to accomplish the phases of the roll-out within a pre-determined schedule and budget. Ongoing product and end-user support are provided through the Unisys global support operation.

Additional support resources for Office 2000 solution deployment

Unisys has made a significant investment in the resources and expertise required for the successful integration of Office 2000 and other Microsoft products into heterogeneous environments. Currently, Unisys has more than 1,500 Microsoft certifications, including more than 500 Microsoft Certified Systems Engineers (MCSEs) in its consulting, field engineering and customer support organizations.

Under the expanded alliance with Microsoft, Unisys today announced the availability of additional field engineers and consultants trained in Office 2000 design, deployment and support in North America and Europe. Additional resources are currently in training and will be deployed worldwide on an ongoing basis.

"With the release of Office 2000, Microsoft is delivering a true productivity tool - with new features that address cost of ownership, Web integration and ease of use," said Gerry Gagliardi, president, Unisys Global Customer Services. "Unisys is uniquely qualified to provide the consultative services that organizations will need to quickly take full advantage of these new capabilities. Microsoft and Unisys are committed to the success of this alliance, and we are investing substantial resources for technical and sales training, and are working together on regional account development. We look forward to adding more high-value, Microsoft-centric solutions to this portfolio in the near future."

"Through their global reach and deployment service capabilities, Unisys provides the service and support that enterprise customers need to rapidly and efficiently deploy and manage Office 2000," said Bob Muglia, senior vice president of Microsoft's Applications and Tools Group. "New deployment technologies in Office 2000 such as the Windows Installer and single world-wide executable, combined with Unisys's expertise in deployment support will help enterprises create more business value. Together, Microsoft and Unisys are helping companies achieve significant advances in productivity."

Enhanced Alliance Emphasizes Services

Unisys and Microsoft share a successful 15-year history of working together to bring the right IT products and service solutions to the marketplace. The success of this collaboration was most recently confirmed with Unisys designation as a Microsoft Enterprise partner in 1997.

Through this relationship, the companies are optimizing Microsoft software performance on Unisys high-performance enterprise-class servers and delivering enterprise-class information services and solutions to financial services, government and other key market sectors.

With today's announcement, the companies add a new dimension to the alliance - one that leverages Unisys extensive Microsoft deployment experience and ability to deliver and execute on a global basis.

Unisys standard Microsoft methodology capitalizes on its proven performance in delivering end-to-end networking and support services to commercial, government and industrial clients. Customers benefit from a reliable process that facilitates the enterprise-wide application of distributed computing technology.

In addition to the Office 2000 Solution announced today, Unisys plans to augment its Microsoft Solutions portfolio with service-based support solutions for the implementation of Microsoft Exchange and Windows 2000.
