Congrats on the Explorer, if you're going to be towing I hope you got the extra towing packing, (transmission cooling, higher gear ratio)

I've had mine for 2 years now(replaced an aging Cherokee) and it's been really great. Never any problems with towing my bass boat or pulling it out of the water. I went with the V6 with the SOH for more horsepower since it's also my everyday vehicle so I get better mileage than the V8.

I've had a couple minor problems. After about 15mths. the battery shorted out, but this was a "good thing". While I was jump starting it I noticed a fuel leak and gas was dripping on the block. Ended up
being a bad connector on the fuel rail but if the battery hadn't gone bad then I wouldn't have noticed the leak and who knows!!

Both were warranty repairs so it worked out ok. Then in January the
thermostat stuck closed and the engine ran hot all the way back from the lake, I could keep it at a fairly constant 60mph and it didn't overheat. This was a bitch because I dropped it off for repair at the Ford dealer at 7am on Saturday and had someone pick me up to take me to work. The parts people said they were out of stock and wouldn't be able to get a new thermostat until Monday. I ended up having to rent a car for 3 days for a $10 part. I've sent letters to Ford about this and they sent a real nice card but no compensation.
Next time I'll go to Pep Boys or Auto Zone and get a damm replacement
part for them.

Any way good luck.
