March 29, 1999 08:02 AM
MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 29, 1999--C-Cube Microsystems
CUBE announced today that Matrox Electronic Systems Ltd. has selected its
digital video encoding and decoding silicon to power their new digital video
products for the consumer PC, video production/video server, and broadcast
markets.

As part of the relationship, the companies will collaborate on the development of
combined technologies for video compression, realtime editing, and graphics that
will enable feature-rich systems with superior image quality to be delivered at price
points that make them accessible to a broader market.

"C-Cube's silicon is an integral part of Matrox's DTV strategy to offer cost-effective
realtime editing products across our core markets," said Lorne Trottier, president
of Matrox. "Our selection of C-Cube technology allows us to deliver a complete
spectrum of cutting-edge solutions for consumer, prosumer, professional and
broadcast video applications."

Matrox selected C-Cube for its leadership in addressing critical market issues
such as interoperability of all MPEG and DV video content (including MPEG-1,
MPEG-2, DV, DV50, DVCPRO, DVCam, DVCPRO50, and Digital S); DV to
MPEG transcoding for editing and storage; time-code driven, frame-accurate
MPEG editing.

"Matrox and C-Cube share a common vision for the proliferation of digital video on
the multimedia PC platform," said Alex Balkanski, CEO of C-Cube Microsystems.
"Matrox's strong presence in the graphics and video editing markets combined
with our strength in digital video provides an opportunity for exciting new video
applications."

Matrox's first introduction of C-Cube based products will be at this year's National
Association of Broadcaster's show, April 19-22. At NAB, Matrox will announce its
first DVxpress-MX based products. Announcements in the consumer PC and
broadcast space will continue throughout the year.
