Let's not be so hasty about concluding that Fujitsu will own the technology. I read the article and it says Fujitsu will own whatever "manufacturing technology" has been developed. I take that to mean processing (fabrication) technology and not the basic design technology. Further, I think the processing technology will only include new fabrication methods and not those already being used to manufacture 16 Kbit chips. In other words, Fujitsu will likely own incremental technology improvements and not the basic design or processing technology.

In practical terms, Fujitsu will still have to use Ramtron's basic design and manufacturing technology which are probably well protected by their patent portfolio, meaning that Ramtron will still receive royalty payments from Fujitsu's 64 and 256 kbit chips.

IMHO
