FREMONT, Calif., March 29 /PRNewswire/ -- SMART Modular Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: SMOD - news) announced today that it is
prepared to begin full-scale Rambus® RIMM(TM) module production. In anticipation of the industry-wide demand for this advanced
memory technology, SMART has made extensive investments in high-speed placement and test equipment, as well as adding key personnel
in the areas of engineering, operations and sales to its worldwide facilities. SMART also expects to make an additional $15 to $20 million
capital investment in the next eight months to help ensure its readiness for the expected growth in demand for RIMM modules.

SMART's Rambus RIMM module manufacturing and test equipment includes automated high-speed placement equipment with full vision
inspection capability to handle mBGA package simulation software and advanced x-ray and optical inspection equipment. To ensure
full-speed functionality and high-quality modules, SMART's Fremont facility is equipped with Hewlett-Packard test systems capable of
testing modules up to 1.3GHz with a measuring accuracy of +/-50ps.
