Mobile Connectivity

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 29,
1999--Xircom, Inc. (Nasdaq:XIRC - news), the world leader in
connectivity solutions for mobile computing professionals, today
confirmed it has been shipping its 56K MiniPCI modems to Hitachi
Ltd. (NYSE:HIT - news) in Japan since February.

Xircom's MiniPCI solution, which utilizes Lucent Technologies'
leading modem technology, provides a flexible and low cost
configuration alternative for communications functionality in Hitachi's
notebook PCs.

''Hitachi has been building Xircom's high-performance MiniPCI
modems into our newest sub-notebook products for over a month,''
said Tugio Momose, general manager of Hitachi's PC Division.
''Xircom's expertise in mobile communications and their technical

advantages of low cost assembly and speed to market.''

MiniPCI Yields Incremental Business Opportunity

MiniPCI represents an incremental opportunity for Xircom to

based communications solutions that replace existing proprietary
modem daughter cards.

Xircom's focus on mobile connectivity, flexible manufacturing
capabilities and rapid product development cycles, enable it to
provide a full range of communications solutions in a variety of form
factors that meet the unique needs of both notebook PC OEMs and
the corporate enterprise customer.

''Xircom's world-class speed-based processes make us nimble and
aggressive in our pursuit of MiniPCI business, as evidenced by our
current presence in Japan,'' said Anthony Gioeli, Xircom's vice
president of worldwide OEM sales. ''Xircom has the mobile
communications expertise and technical knowledge that enable us to
design and manufacture a wide range of solutions in order to
capitalize on incremental opportunities like this with Hitachi.''

About MiniPCI

The MiniPCI form factor, currently under review by the PCI
Special Interest Group, is designed to support integrated
communications in small form factor products, such as notebook
and handheld PCs.

MiniPCI incorporates the same essential electronics, functionality,
and software drivers of standard PCI expansion devices into a very
small daughter card. The result is a cost-effective way for
manufacturers who desire such features to integrate LAN, modems,
and other communications capabilities into notebook computers,
docking stations, printers, and other devices.
