LONDON (AFX) - Carlton Communications PLC and Granada Group PLC joint venture ONdigital is expected to announce this week it has sold between 85,000 and 100,000 set top boxes since it started service in November, the Sunday Business reported.

This compares with 120,000 new subscriptions at British Sky Broadcasting Group PLC's digital satellite service SkyDigital by the end of January, it said.

Philips Electronics NV said it will stop production of set - top boxes at its Belgian factory for "the next few weeks" in order to install a new chip in the equipment it makes for Ondigital.

It said it encountered problems with the ONdigital specification, which it claims to have solved, the newspaper said.

Reports indicate that ONdigital customers have experienced interference on their TV screens, which break up into squares and freeze intermittently.
