M2 PRESSWIRE-29 March 1999-LUCENT TECHNOLOGIES: Lucent
Technologies and Novell to present directory-enabled networking seminar
program across Europe (C)1994-99 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

LONDON, UK -- Lucent Technologies today announced a pan-European
seminar program with Novell on directory-enabled networking. This free,
half-day seminar series starts in the UK in April and will continue over the next
months in Holland, Sweden, South Africa, Germany, France, Spain and Italy.
Recently, Lucent and Novell announced they were working together on the
development and adoption of directory-enabled networking standards. This
will allow organisations to improve their network management and cost
controls by helping to integrate network equipment - such as switches and
routers - with directory services.

"The pressure is on for network and IT managers in today's organisations to
provide a fast, reliable and efficient service, as well as the most up-to-date
converged solutions. The challenge is to build and maintain a high-quality
network to the benefit of all users within an organisation, which is structured to
tier resources to mission-critical applications," said John Collins, Enterprise
Data Networking Offer Manager, Lucent Technologies, Europe, Middle East
and Africa. "These seminars will provide an in-depth look at directory-enabled
networking technology and how it can help them manage these business
priorities."

"This seminar series shows the increasing closeness of the relationship between
Novell and Lucent and is an excellent opportunity to discuss the importance of
directory-enabled networking with our customers" says Stephen Davies,
Director of Strategy, Novell EMEA.

Lucent's policy-based management application for the Cajun P550 Switch, a
Layer 2 switching, Layer 3 routing Ethernet platform, is scheduled to be
integrated with Novell Directory Service (NDS) by mid year. This policy-based
functionality is also scheduled to be available for the other members of
Lucent's Cajun Campus product line, plus additional offerings in Lucent's data
networking enterprise portfolio over the next 12 months.
