I never has a term for that. It was always upgrade cycle in my mind.

Two years. hmmm As handsets become cheaper and functions become greater they could become throw away like devices bought at the check out counter of supermarkets and that cycle will be reduced to year of less. hmmm I wonder if we will get to the point that man machine interface is so defined that there would be no need to change it, and the underlying electronics is so flexible and powerful, that a simple firmware upgrade will be all that's needed, downloaded for fee or course from Q?
