Ok- my take on DRMD (pharmacists point of view). Let me start by letting you know I am a pharmacist and an owner of DRMD. I bought DRMD when they submitted application for a generic sub for Premarin. I figured they had about a 50/50 chance for approval. I bought more after the denyal and price decline. I've bought and waited, bought and waited for FDA approval of their new "brand" drug (Centesin).
My take on the situation is Duramed will make a lot of money on this drug (providing marketing is adequate). When I answer questions about Premarin from women, I cringe when they ask me where it comes from, and I have to tell them - pregnant horses' urine. I have had customer/patients who have refused to take their Premarin because it came from horse urine. I have a longtime friend who happens to be an OB/GYN- he said he would be comfortable prescribing Centesin as long as it does what it's supposed to do.
Keep in mind- Premarin has the distinction of being the #1 most prescribed drug in the WORLD. A small percentage of that market would make Duramed very profitable.
I would feel a lot more comfortable telling patients their drug comes from Soybeans and Yams ...than Pregnant Horse urine.
P.S. Both Yams and Soybeans are cheap! therefore it should be inexpensive to produce the drug- therefore- more money in the bank!!! There's plenty of room on pharmacy shelves for a new hormone for women. I look forward to dispensing Centesin.
