Drug Analyst: Sector Poised For Merger Activity

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Although it remains unclear whether Glaxo Wellcome PLC (GLX) will join forces with Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. (BMY), there's no question the pharmaceuticals sector is in a consolidation mode, said Gruntal & Co. analyst David Saks.

Appearing on CNBC Monday, Saks said that drug companies, poised for consolidation, will eventually lead to inflated stock values overall for the sector.

"These are giant drug companies ready to do deals," he said. Among those companies possibly in the consolidation mix include Amgen Inc. (AMGN), Saks said.

Saks' drug stock picks include Watson Pharmaceuticals Inc. (WPI), Eli Lilly & Co. (LLY) and Pfizer Inc. (PFE).
