The article from Firing Squad, if at all true, would not make me a happy camper. If 32bpp coulda been stuck in the current architecture, why didn't they do it from the start? If it was that complicated, then why not just put it into their next part (as originally thought)? If V3 4000 is their next part, then it better have geom accel! But per the article, that might not happen until the end of the year...
I take the article with a bag of salt, but still, I would rather hear rumors with better news (though the sooner they get a 32bpp part out, the better...and the Dell news, if true, would be good.
Regarding OEM sales, if we are capacity constrained, we should be able to raise prices...but with OEM deals and a part which is not extraordinary compared to the rest of the market, we can't raise prices...except at retail. But to make our product hot and quick for the OEMs, we didn't make V3 the best it could be for the 'enthusiast'(retail market). Kind of a catch 22.
Oh, and if we wait for Geom Accel support in DirectX....I will be pissed! We MUST be first to market with GA(low end), and we must have exclusive support for it via Glide. |
