If 32bpp coulda been stuck in the current architecture, why didn't they do it from the start? If it was that complicated, then why not just put it into their next part (as originally thought)?

It could have been, and is being (if the rumor is true), put in the current architecture. Doing so makes the part available in late summer, not early spring. They stated early on V3 could have had 32 bit, but at the cost of time to market. Since they had to wait to ship V3/4k (due to Intel's delay of Camino), why not go ahead and work on the 32 bit part (and another bit on the memory bus to give 32MB max.) If it's ready before Camino, ship it, if not, drop it (since you never really said it was coming anyway, right? :)
