A pretty good day:
General Instrument and Telcordia Team to
Provide Next Generation IP Telephony Solutions

Industry Leaders Committed to Advancing Packet-Based Telephony Solutions for the Cable Industry

HORSHAM, Pa., and MORRISTOWN, N.J., March 29 /PRNewswire/ -- General Instrument Corporation (NYSE:
GIC - news) and Telcordia Technologies, Inc., formerly Bellcore, today announced that they intend to work
together to help customers develop and implement Next Generation Network IP Telephony solutions for cable
providers.

The two companies will be working together to promote open, standards-based telephony architectures for next
generation packet-based networks focused on enabling cable operators to deploy complete and cost-effective IP
telephony solutions. GI and Telcordia will work together to create synergies that will benefit their customers in a
number of key areas including the integration of the Telcordia(TM) call agent software with GI's communications
gateway for the home. The Telcordia call agent acts like a local office virtual switch, providing intelligent call
control features and end-to-end signaling using Telcordia developed standards-based call-control protocols. GI is
currently building these open protocols into its communications gateway products to ensure seamless
interoperability with the Telcordia call agent.

This relationship marks a significant step in Telcordia Technologies Next Generation Networks (NGN) strategy,
which represents a new corporate focus on the development and deployment of products and services to help
service providers leverage the multi-billion dollar market resulting from the convergence of voice, video and data
services. Telcordia's NGN strategy focuses on the transformation of traditional legacy networks to drive powerful
improvements in the speed, cost, scalability and adaptability of global communications.
