richard, you are saying that all i need to do to convert a .txt to a .html is to add .html as i'm saving it, right? when i go to save as, it doesn't add the extension - book.txt appears as book when i try and save it. i will try and add the .html to the end and see how it works.

however, in explorer, the extension just doesn't show at the end of the document name. it shows, but in a different column that doesn't allow changes. do i need to change something in "view" to get it to show at the end of the file name so i can rename it?
