After listening ot Bill Gates and Steve Balmer, it seems obvious that this licensing or break up is unrealistic for --all parties concerned unless of course you are IBM, Novell, AOL or Sun Microsystems to name a few. Licensing code would cause one hell of a screw up. In the corporate market, I would imagine they would pick Microsoft's version. STOP!!! I just stopped typing more on this possibility as it looks like a dead idea and not to mention ridiculus. I can imagine the state attorneys also worried about such solutions expect for New York or California--which have their hidden motives.(I might have missed naming a one or two other states) Sure hope they work on majority vote. The only realistic possibility is transparent pricing and ensuring that those that sell other MSFT products do not get unfair advantage in Windows pricing. This would allow PC companies to operate without fear in the marketplace especially the internet. I can just imagine all the deals AOL would be working on if this was to happen. The central issue now is providing freedom to PC companies. The freedom to load up Linux on consumer PCs and possibily even getting the MAC o/s somehow in the "IBM PC" (remember that term). To do this without the fear of Bill Gates and company.
