The chart on this one since January 1999 looks steeper than Whistler. As if their sales problems aren't bad enough, the company is also the target of Northern Ontario citizens incensed that the Schad Foundation ( Robert Schad is President of HKY) helped finance the anti bear hunt campaign that resulted in the cancellation of the Spring bear hunt in Ontario. This decision was handed down without warning to the tourism outfitters that had already booked hunts and taken deposits. Their financial situation has been severely compromised by this cancellation and they are not amused by the participation of Mr. Schad. Some of them are said to be calling HKY customers and threatening to boycott their products. I have no proof of this nor is there any direct indication that these actions might be having an effect on the stock price. It is interesting to note, however, that the company is being associated with the Schad Foundation and the campaign to end the bear hunt. Other environmental organizations have also targeted Mr. Schad and his foundation for funding for such projects as the fight to prevent the development of a mine on the B.C./ U.S. border. It seems these groups have identified him and his well funded Foundation as easy money for their various causes.
