Sounds like they are trying to get management's attention, a spanking if you will. Kind of like saying you better get things moving soon as we are starting to loose patience. They were not overt about it but it is the feeling I got. I also agree and am concerned about the lack of marketing lately. Maybe they are going with a full blitz later in the year when the y2k fear starts to manifest.
