FYI CheckFree is moving to a so-called 'Good Funds' model, where availability of funds is verified before payment. New versions of the client software for bill payment will support this model. I'm unclear on the exact details of how this works, though. There was an agreement with Visa announced some time ago - that may also have something to do with this, ie real-time balance enquiry (& debit ?) processes to many consumer accounts.
