I just can't understand all of the concern over this problem, remember that this is a mechanical device that you are talking about, it is simply a computer that has been created by MAN, the programs were written by MAN also, the problem is not in the machines, it is with the programs, or software. Patches, or fixes can be written with realitive ease to fix these problems. A majority of the computers, or software that is not Y2K compliant, are already PATCHED, a very simple line of code can be written and installed very easily!!! The only real concern that is left is the completness of the patches that are installed, but they are testing these extensivily to make sure all bugs are out!! The worse case scenario in the Y2K issue that you will ever see is you will be overcharged, or undercharged on a credit card statement from a small Co. that did not test there Y2K patches, or didn't even bothered to fix the problem. Rest assured that the American people, the software Companys, are well aware that the problem could have posed problems, but they are on it, and have been for a couple years. The software Co's have stepped up the remedy's for the problems in the past year, and their earnings, and stock prices are feeling the heat of it. Look for instance at ORCL, and JDEC these are two of the biggest software company's in the world. There profits are down because all of their Programmer's have been busy fixing all of the non-compatible software, and not concentrating on writing new programs... The Y2K issue needs to be handled with care, it really does, but it is definatly not the end of the world, the problems that have not been already fixed, will be within 1 week of Jan 1 2000, However the programs that would, or could have had a major impact on the world, are already fixed. The Y2K problem, again I will say is only meadiated HYPE, these people that write these articles have no Idea what a line of code is, or couldnt even operate a Computer if it didn't have Windows 95, or 98 on it. they have no IDEA what is even involved... They just know that it sells news papers, and magazines, and programs that you can put on your computer to see if it is Y2K compatible. I saw a comerical on the T.V the other night and it was selling a silver ingot with Dale Earndhart on it, the comerical was based also on the Y2K hype, the guy selling the ingot said "People are fearing that when year 2000 is here you won't be able to get your money out of the bank, there is no better time to invest in precious metals like this, and you can buy this 1 oz of .999 percent pure silver for only $59.95" of course there is only a little less than $5.50 worth of silver there, I am sure that some people bought that ingot for $59.95 so they could trade it for a loaf of bread, on Jan 15,2000. Point being, it is all HYPE, and it is making alot of people alot of money,, and it will continue to as long as there are extremists in the world... P.T. Barnum once said "There Is A Sucker Born Every Minute, and Eventually, I Will Get His Money"!
