Do you think artificial intelligence will be possible eventually? Do you have any thoughts on the subject?

The dictionary definition of Intelligence is the ability to apply knowledge to manipulate ones environment.

Do you think if "software agents" and computing power became sophisticated enough in the future, in manipulating our environment for us, that they have the potential to exhibit some form of artificial intelligence? or is even the networked sum of human intelligence, incapable of accumulating to the point necessary for us to produce such a creation?
