1 a and b: Funny thing about psychedelics - one person's proper dose is another person's Bad Idea. A frequently but not consistently encountered state of psychedelic intoxication is "ego dissolution". The sense of self is floated (or bludgeoned - not all trips are funhouse rides!) away, leaving either <indescribable oblivion> or a sense of cosmic identity. Bottom line is that the sense of continuity of identity - a key feature of a soul - is broken. A person can have a profound sensation of "rebirth" or reassembly as someone completely different after such an experience.
A psychotic delirium has the same interruption of identity continuity. This is often frightening/heartbreaking to the patient. "No decent God would allow me to go through that".
I haven't seen the alien docudrama, but that seems to be a different situation. Did the involved parties lose track of who they were?
2) I'd say Yes, and No. The capacity for conscience is likely to have a genetic component. An affinity for ethical/philosophical thought seems to be a feature of the human organism. As for the situation you suggest - an extrapersonal bridge - you can imagine my answer. I'd say Unlikely. My conscience is a conceptualization of ethics within my meat, and I doubt I share it with anybody else. When I check out - it won't get recycled.
