There are two institutions that LOVE Virus scares. 1) The Press 2) Anti-Virus companies These two entities work together for their mutual profit. The media loves virus scares because they are exciting, scary, and sexy. The Anti-Virus companies do everything they can to hype up every new virus in order to scare companies into buying more software. It is in both of their interests to make every virus sound as bad as can be. So this new Macro Virus is getting tons of press this week. Next week it will all be forgotten because the real impact will not be anywhere near as bad as the media is hyping it up. (Does anyone remember Michaelangelo or even the MCI thing last month??) All hype, little damage, lots o'cash for the Papers and (anti)Virus companies.
