SUN IS EXCLUSIVE HIGH-PERFORMANCE WORKSTATION SUPPLIER TO SYLVEST FOR TREASURY BPA
WASHINGTON, D.C. - February 20, 1997 - Sun Microsystems, Inc. announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Sun Microsystems Federal, Inc., is the exclusive high-performance workstation and server supplier to Sylvest Management Systems Corporation for the Treasury Distributed Processing Infrastructure (TDPI), a Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) based on Sylvest's GSA Federal Supply schedule. The program will place high performance workstations, servers, peripherals and software in the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and other Treasury organizations.
The IRS, modernizing its tax processing systems using Sun(TM) products, is the primary customer for TDPI. This single BPA accelerates the use of Sun products in support of the IRS continued tax system modernization program. Other treasury organizations also may use this BPA to meet their computing needs, dramatically streamlining procurement operations.
"Sun Federal and Sylvest have been teammates on several federal technology projects and are confident TDPI will be another huge success," said John Marselle, President of Sun Microsystems Federal, Inc. "We are delighted to be a major contributor as the IRS continues its tax system modernization program."
Sylvest's winning solution is based on Sun UltraSPARC(TM) workstations and servers, including Ultra(TM) workstations, Ultra(TM) Enterprise 3000, 4000 and 6000 servers, and Ultra 2 enterprise servers. The Solaris(TM) operating environment will be used for all systems.
Since its inception in 1982, a singular vision, "The Network Is The Computer(TM)," has propelled Sun Microsystems, Inc., (NASDAQ"SUNW"), to its position as a leading provider of hardware, software and services for establishing enterprise-wide intranets and expanding the power of the Internet. With more than $7 billion in annual revenues, Sun can be found in more than 150 countries and on the WorldWide Web at sun.com. ###
