They just put out a new release - Magic TSD. Part of that is something called Event Orchestrator. I think that's the real magical part of the entire NETA offering. It's also central to the helpdesk. From what I have seen, this may very well be the glue that brings all the NETA products together.

If the NETA sales reps are successful in pitching the helpdesk as the ideal product , not only for call tracking, but also for crisis handling such as virus outbreaks (a detected virus is automatically logged as a trouble ticket in the helpdesk, and alerts are forwarded to the responsible persons. That's what I call real network management), buying into the Nettools vision will make much more sense. And once a company has bought all of it, it will be more costly to change to a multi-vendor solution than to 'wait for the next version'.

It's not unlike the Microsoft or Apple approach. The beauty of Event Orchestrator is that it communicates with the likes of OpenView, so it will be an open standard and scalable too.

To come back at your question: I think NETA has a very good opportunity to seize a part of the market that is now dominated by Tivoli/Unicenter/OpenView as far as Helpdesk systems and application management is concerned. It all depends on how sharp the NETA sales peeps are.
