Back to fundamentals, sorry to all of you techies.

From InfoWorld (3/29/99) "Lucent Technologies next week will introduce a high-capacity LAN core switch designed for converged voice-data networks. The Cajun M770 will be equipped with a dual 40 Gbps ATM switch fabric .. . and can be configured with the 155 Mbps ATM or the 10/100 Mbps Ethernet interface." (p. 5)

Also, "AT&T is extending its ATM services to an end-to-end offering, with local ATM connectivity to be available in 41 cities nationwide by the end of the year. . . . In addition to local ATM service, AT&T announced ATM Transparent LAN service for linking dispersed LAN's in an enterprise. Both services will include AT&T service level agreements." (p. 26)

I personally don't think FORE is up to the challenge of taking on these Goliaths in the long run especially now that they are re-doubling their efforts in FORE's area of expertise. Can FORE provide guarantees of service at the levels promised by AT&T and Lucent?
IMHO, it's ironic that the success of ATM may foretell FORE's demise.

Good luck to all longs, but I'm out for now. I'll bet on Goliath.
