Jim,

I saw the gap yesterday on my charts.I know it got an upgrade this morning from First Albany with a target price of 17, but they also pre-announce a big miss for the Q on Mar 8,1999.

My guess is that it is benefiting from all the hype around QCOM. They have a factory in China. Remember that this is a late cycle supplier though. The towers get wired lasted in a deployment.

From a general perspective, I think the near term growth for QCOM is over stated. I don't believe that there will be more CDMA wins than if QCOM were still in the infrastructure business in the near term. Long term is a different story. ERICY has too much of an investment in GSM and will continue to promote it where possible as they get a better margin. 3G is still yet to be determined. QCOM held some critical patents, but that does not mean CDMA in the QCOM form will win. I don't think China can use the same model as North America where the phones are subsidized by the carrirer. That 75 dollar phone can cost the carrier 300 dollars. As a result handset sales may not grow as fast as predicted. We saw a similar overstated growth path with paging.

ANDW is also benefiting from the activity in North American spectrum auctions. Check out the LWIN thread.

It looks like you have been away. What part of the world have you been off to?
