At least in the New Orleans area, CPU doesn't have any real competition. We have Office Depot and Office Max, but their computer inventory is much less. Circuit City sells some hardware but no software.
And the local store is always packed with customers. I am leasing my Sony laptop from CPU. The paperwork was a little tedious, but since then there have been no glitches.
I think all of us are baffled why a retailer with such a following and a rather unique niche isn't doing well. I say unique niche because no one in this area allows hands on appraisal of anywhere near their inventory. Mail order will never allow you to see and touch the actual product which will always be desirable.
