Seen a similiar/any document by Ford/Jaguar? I sent them data relating to potential chip/systems problems when they were just beginning to become aware of the problem, and haven't been able to get ANY response back from them in relation to my own car since!
In your post you commented on their hopeulet to 'fix on failure', which will be a universal m.o., within 10 months....
Almost all entities in every field in every country started years too late, with inadequate budgets (which only a small % will actually utilize by Dec 31), usually with inadequate personnel, with significant technical problems that anyone well-informed is aware of, and, doing fixes IN THE BEST OF TIMES!
What happens when systems go down, replacement chips are delayed/non available (due to any of a number of potential senarios), engineers may not be available, utilities may be down, along with any number of other disruptive senarios, when they plan on fixing problems, IN THE WORST OF TIMES (any number of systems around them crashing, locally, regionally, nationally, internationally!)!!!
How many suppliers does GM have....100,000? How many are replaceable? How many of them, if down, can freeze GM's production line alone...20,000? How many of these app. 100,000 will be end-end compliant in 9 months? How many of them even replied to GM's letter inquiring about their progress? How many of them gave a believable response to GM teams sent into the field to acquire evidence?
Wasn't it at GM that EVERY robot system crashed during a test?
Last year I read a report I believe by a high-level exec there, involved with their y2k program, who reportedly exclaimed that they may not be able to produce ONE MORE car as of 1-4- 2000!
Fix on failure m.o. or pr, is simply and solely the latest refuge by those who know they will not/can not make it in time!
