<<So what do we do now? We can't very well use the alibi of most of the world following the revelation of Nazi atrocities in WWII of "We just didn't know". We do know.>>

This makes things even more difficult for the US and NATO. I agree that this is a damn mess we've gotten ourselves into. But now that we are in it, getting out may be an even bigger mess. Not only will it send a very bad message abroad that the US can be stared down, that NATO is a paper tiger, but that we walked away with full knowledge of what was happening in Kosovo. It will be another piece of propoganda for Muslim extremists to banter: "the great Satan walked away while our brothers in Kosovo were being murdered, they lied and betrayed us." And the ethical questions abound.

If we were going to do this, we should have done it properly. It seems NATO simply did not dedicate the forces necessary to cover all bases. So what we have is a nearly castrated mission that has achieved the exact opposite of what we desired. Bump up the stakes or back out, either way the US loses, in one way or another.
