I encourage everyone who has large amounts time to waste and wants to look at a hype thread, to check out the Bid.Com (BII:TSE) thread. Now just so that you don't think that I have brought you another one of those 2-bit OTC:BB carp POS ex-con promoter type scammo companies, this is just not the case. Bid.Com is a bona fide TSE-trading, internet-mania stock - Canadian style. Corporate filings are available at sedar.com Their year-end results for 1998 are out: biz.yahoo.com
In 1998, revenue increased more than 600% to $20.1 million from $2.7 million in 1997. Gross profit for 1998 was $728,000 compared to a loss of $245,000 in 1997,... For the year, Bid.Com reported a net loss of $18.7 million, or $0.79 per basic share, compared to a net loss of $6.7 million, or $0.55 per basic share, in 1997... "During the year, we successfully delivered on our stated operational objectives which included managing Bid.Com's momentum by increasing mind share, market share, revenues and margins; securing adequate equity funding through private placements with strategic and financial partners; and building multiple revenue streams through licensing, advertising, database marketing and international expansion. We also surpassed our $20 million annual revenue target,"
Note: all figures in $CDN. $1 US ~= $1.51 CDN).
With sales of $20MM and losses of $18.7MM, this stock is considered to have the Amazon.Com business model, which easily justifies a market cap of around $750MM. The wisdom on the thread is that this stock will move higher when its NASDAQ application, for which it applied in February (http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/990216/fl_bid_com_1.html ) is granted. Moving to the NASDAQ is said to be worth a $10 increas in the stock price (taht's US$)!
This stock has been making the business pages of all the major Canadian papers due to its incredible move. Last October it was trading under $1CDN, now it is in the mid-high teens. Check out the yahoo 1yr and 5-day charts: from $7.50 to $17.50 in a few days, and from $0.50 in August. quote.yahoo.com quote.yahoo.com
The newspapers seem to suggest that the reason for these moves might be the recent rumours circulating on the internet about takeovers by ebay or AMZN (or was that AZNT?). The National Post (when not doing articles on OTC-BB carp: nationalpost.com ) has put out about 10 articles on Bid.Com in the past few days (see nationalpost.com search keyword BII). This article even quotes some SI members! nationalpost.com (was anyone you know quoted?).
Some people don't think that quoting SI posts in a National newspaper (even if it is Canada's 2nd place national newspaper) is a good idea: I get concerned when I see myself quoted in the morning news , someone is using Me /Us to move this thing. I don't want anybody buying on Rumors alone, it usually ends badly for those late to the party. techstocks.com
And to the Post (or any printed/electronic media): Quote me and I'll sue the sh*t out of you. Message 8555077
There are hundreds of posts per day, and there are many posters whop participate only on this thread. Lots of news and all of it good:
don't worry! Any news out of Bid.com will be good news. Even if it isn't immediately obvious I'm sure certain thread members will provide the regular positive spin. Message 8595913
But be warned, having a less than enthusiastic opinion may result in you being put on somebody's list: Im really getting tired of your act. Knock the crap off or i will pursue this till the day i die. count on it. have a good life. Message 8598459
Daytraders, hypesters, threateners, rumour mongers plain old joes, market pros, and of course a skeptic or two - this thread has it all! Why just read about it in the newspaper, when you can become a BII lurker and experience it first hand? Subject 13266
