biz.yahoo.com Company Press Release
Easy to Install, Deploy and Manage, I-Studio Turns Any LAN or WAN Into a Broadcast TV Network
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 30, 1999--FVC.COM (Nasdaq:FVCX - news), the leader in enterprise video networking, today announced the immediate availability of I-Studio, a complete solution for streaming high-quality, full-screen, full-motion video over IP networks.
I-Studio, suitable for everything from a single department's local network to a large enterprise, simultaneously multicasts, records, and rebroadcasts video, audio and text to individual PCs over the Internet and enterprise Intranets.
I-Studio installs within one hour, and immediately enables highly productive business, education and government applications such as distance learning, corporate communications, and broadcast of live or stored video programming. Time-critical information can reach geographically-dispersed audiences using I-Studio, and users can receive feeds from news services, educational channels, and other live sources. The price point and ease of deployment mean the decision to use I-Studio can often be made at the departmental level.
''This product can pay for itself in a single training session by eliminating the need for travel,'' said Rich Beyer, president and CEO of FVC.COM. ''We make it possible for our customers to harness the power of video as a productivity tool quickly and without negative impact on network resources.''
I-Studio runs over any type of IP network, regardless of the underlying infrastructure. There is no need to upgrade existing switches and routers to support IP multicast. A plug and stream product, I-Studio broadcasts a wide range of video, from H.263 to MPEG-1, delivering the highest quality transmission the available bandwidth will support.
I-Studio can broadcast live video from a camera, VCR, DVD, CD, TV, satellite, or cable feed to the LAN or WAN. It can even record video as it is multicast, enabling rebroadcasting of programs or video on demand access for viewers in different time zones or locations. No specialized Web administration or network management skills are needed to deploy I-Studio or set up broadcasts. In addition, FVC.COM's free Viewer and Program Guide make it easy for users to find broadcast programs or stored content without searching for it on the Web.
I-Studio, as a simple departmental system, compliments FVC.COM's existing family of scalable MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 ATM-based streaming solutions. The company also provides industry-leading interactive videoconferencing and WAN access products. I-Studio integrates the major components of the product family FVC.COM purchased from ICAST Corporation in 1998, all within a single chassis that is ready to plug into a network.
The client software is included and can be installed on as many desktops as required without additional licensing cost. Current list prices for I-Studio are: with a 10/100 Ethernet interface, $21,000; with a Gigabit Ethernet interface or 155 ATM OC-3 interface, $22,500.
