Ah, now we're talking: retsina, horiatiki (village salad), feta, avgolemono (egg-lemon soup), mousaka, spanakopita (spinach pie), baked lamb, etc.
And then there are the desserts! Don't even get me started.
My Mom, her sister, and cousin, quite the gourmands and excellent cooks when it comes to holiday meals!
I visited Greece long long ago (ancient Greece :-) ).
I remember buying retsina from a local on the island of Paros; he filled our bottle from a wooden cask in a small whitewashed stone storage building near the sea. That was powerful stuff.
I hiked around the cove with a lovely German couple I met, watched the sunset put a stunning mind-boggling irridescent glow on the sea, fried fish on hot stones and drank retsina.
Memorable.
