I received this note from someone who works for one of the major Y2K experts:

the other Y2K'ers are overlooking water and heavy transport.... but Alan
Simpson (CSPAN broadcast, 6/2/98) was talking starvation/famine in Urban
centers back in June 1998 beause of the railroads/trucking industry/fuel
distribution non-compliance...."

I have not seen any reports since Simpson's to indicate any significant hope for end-end compliance in these sectors, to date.....
To the contrary....particularly with respect to refineries and port facilities and maritime shipping, and oil producers' status....
