Chuckie,
You made some very good points, however, I would like to counter some of your points, please,
1) My feeling is that a majority of Home PC purchases are made by people who are capable of paying $1500 to $3000 for a PC every few years.
2) People who cannot afford to buy $1500 PCs are generally less likely to buy PCs at all, regardless of its price.
I just went to couple stores here in Seattle, None so far is carrying CPQ PCs with the Cyrix chip. I was hoping to check it out meself.
However, I did see a PC with a 120 Mhz Pentium/16MB/1GB-HD/12X-CD and with a 15" Monitor for $1499, which is about the same price as the CPQ PC (with the Cyrix CPU and a monitor).
Similar thing happened with the AMD 486 a few years back, I would like to suggest that INTC is currently in a much stronger position, the INTEL Inside label was all over the store, on the PC Boxes and on the demo programs runing....
Just some of my thoughts...
-H.P.
