Smart Investor: you said:Government should not be in the business to chose winners and losers in business, and the final verdict will show that. If the government can go after MSFT right now, why can't the government go after AOL? The government can say the $19.95 per month charge is too high and AOL is too dominant in online service. Do you like that?
I have to tell you something that you already knew but you don't want to admit it:
(1) Since when the US government 'should not' involve itself with business? I would like the IRS not to get involved with my money, but that can only exist in my dream. (2) DOJ did not break IBM but the case last almost 10 years and damage was done when the case was over. (3)DOJ did break ATT (4) DOJ vs tobacco, DOJ won (5) MSFT's window is good stuff, even without using monopoly, the majority of PC will use it for OS because it is a user friendly system but MSFT must force all PC maker to do their way (mistake #1) (6) MSFT's window can take more competition from other applications even without using their power to cut or to destroy others, but MSFT couldn't stop using their muscle (mistake #2) (7) MSFT is like LA police force, Rodney King committed a 'crime', without beating him, LA police can convict him, the whole world will not pay attention, but LA police must show their muscle and got caught on video, and caused anger from all corners, MSFT can and will succeed without whipping others but MSFT did whip.
(8) As for AOL, AOL has no power to stop anyone in the world to use other ISP, AOL is like a club, all ISPs like clubs, you like that club, you join the club, if AOL is choosing its member then AOL is committing crime, but AOL is not!
(9) If AOL forces all PC makers to preload it otherwise it won't get the browser, result? PC maker will use IE. Besides, all browsers are free, so there is no argument there.
(11) If AOL owns all portals, owns ATT, owns Bells, yes, DOJ will have a field on AOL, but AOL does not own any!
(10) If a user does not like to be charged for $19.95 or $21.95, just go somewhere else, there are even few FREE dial-up services sitting there waiting.
So, Smart Investor, can you see what you believe is false?
Again, the day you lost your pants based on your own advice I'll lend you $1 for you to start over.
