DVD on the computer?

We have four computers at home (2 are portables).
They are all Wintel (hang-dog look - we both work with software in big corporates and hate arguing with dinosaurs!). But we have lots of friends in graphic design that loooooove their Apples!

Anyway, we have one DVD player. It is hooked up to the television and the Hi-Fi. We use it to watch movies and play CDs.

I figure in a few years, with large affordable flat panel displays, intuitive remotes, and when somebody has actually figured out meaningful content - like good quality videophones with simple recording for grandma - we will be hooking up a computer (or whatever they call it then) into the entertainment network.

By then Apple will work with DVDs (or whatever). In the meantime, I can not think of a purpose for putting a DVD in my computer!
