Just to clarify, Bong.

In MP3's standard implementation (including playback with Nullsoft's Winamp), a cable modem would have nothing to do with a file's sound quality. Its only role would be to speed up the file's download. The longer the file, the more attractive a broadband connection for this, or any other, download function. Typically, an MP3 file resides on the computer's hard disk in its entirety before it is played.

The exception to this approach is where MP3 files are streamed, as with Nullsoft's SHOUTcast "broadcasting" system. Even though streaming MP3 has limitations of scale (at least for the time being), employment of a broadband connection for MP3 streaming offers manifest sound quality benefits over dial-up Net access.
